The Zamfara state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has demanded for the increase of constitutional pension or review as promised by the administration of Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.

In a statement, signed by the secretary of the association, Alhaji Abba Muhammad Dankande, the pensioners claimed that since the administration of former governor Ahmad Sani Yarima, there has not been any increase made to pensioners till date despite growing responsibilities including the burden of their families.

The statement read in part: “Section 210 subsection 3 of the 1999 amended constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has stipulates that, pension increase or review should be observed after every five years or whenever there is increase in workers’ salaries, which none of such increase was made to the pensioners in the state for many years.

The statement further lamented how the union was lopsided in the distribution of buses as loans as it was done to other unions and associations and even allocation of commodities during fasting and Sallah festivities.

It said, the union had written letters five times demanding for courtesy call on the state governor since he assumed office but no response was received in that respect, saying that the governor might have been derailed by a certain quarter on the importance of their union.
