A non-governmental organization, Journalists and Global Educational Organization has honoured the National Librarian, Mallam Habeeb Jato, with the Integrity and Good Leadership Award.
In a statement by Amrose Sule, a consultant with the National Library of Nigeria (NLN) said, Jato was bestowed the honour for his good morals, excellent performances and liberalism while conducting the affairs of the NLN.
Describing Jato’s award as “well deserving”, the awardees said that their recipient of the Integrity and Good Leadership Award was “accommodating and always willing with his humility, commitment and dedication to serving Nigeria at all times.”
Jato has contributed significantly to the formulation and implementation of policies and library administration in Nigeria. He has been able to sustain the efforts and continued with the reform programmes of library leading to standardization of the NLN operations,” the awardees said.
Born on November 24th, 1957 in Kala-Balge, Bama Local Government Area of Borno state, Jato is currently the National Librarian, a post he ascended on February 14th, 2011.
Jato joined the NLN in 1993 and had risen from the rank of a Deputy Director to his current status as the National Liberian. He has also acquired various work experiences within the realms of Nigeria’s public and private sector.
The National Liberian is an alumni of the Ahamadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Masters Degree in Library Science.
He is an active member of various professional bodies including the Chartered Librarian of Nigeria and Fellow of the Nigerian Library Association.
