Obafemi-Martins1

Nigeria’s weapon of mass destruction, Obafemi Martins has edged closer to recording a historic season in the MLS as his team Seattle Sounders secured their place in the Western Conference Championship of the MLS Cup play-offs after a scoreless second-leg draw with FC Dallas. Martins and his teammates had recorded a 1-1 draw in the first leg and the barren draw at their CenturyLink Field home ground was enough to see them progress.

Seattle are seeking to become the first team to win the US Open Cup, Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup in a single season and will now face LA Galaxy for a place in the final against either New York Red Bulls or New England Revolution.

Making the historic feat will be an icing on the cake for Martins who has been fantastic this term to say the less. The former Inter Milan, Newcastle and Wolfsburg striker already has his name etched in the sands of history; as he is the top scorer ever in one season for Seattle Sounders.
