Registration: We have lost confidence in INEC, says Community

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , began voters registration exercise yesterday, various communities in Jos metropolis have expressed doubt in the Commission to effectively carry out its mandate, following several problems encountered at the commencement of the exercise.

Alh Sani Bala, who is the Director of Finance of Plateau state chapter of Jama’atu Nasrul Islam (JNI) and community leader in Unguwan Rogo noted that apart from other hitches faced by the registration, there various polling units which PVCs were not found and computers were supplied to those units.

He said, ‘ We are very surprised with the way INEC registration is going on; we doubt if INEC will make any impressive thing in the 2015 election. I have been here since morning, but could not achieve anything. ‘

He however expressed the hope that the refusal by INEC to supply computers of those units was not a plan to disenfranchise the people of the community, just as he said the problems had reduced people’s moral to participate in the 2015 election.

According to Bala, many units were not opened up to 4: pm, praying that INEC didn’t have any hidden motive to restrict people to exercise their civic right.

The community leader however called INEC to show seriousness and sincerity in the on-going registration, to enable Nigerians exercise duty to choose their leaders themselves.
