The Borno chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday, unveiled a total of ten aspirants seeking its ticket for 2015 gubernatorial election.
The aspirants were unveiled at a stakeholders meeting in Maiduguri.
They included the 2007 gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Alhaji Kashim Imam, Alhaji Mohammed Bulama, a one- time Managing Director of the defunct Bank of the North.
Others were, Alhaji Mala Sheriff, younger brother of former governor Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and a businessman Alhaji Abba Sadiq, Alhaji Abba Jato, a member of Borno House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abuna, the immediate past Borno commissioner of works and Alhaji Mohammed Makinta a technocrat.
The rest were Alhaji Mohammed Imam a former commissioner of Education, Alhaji Gambo Lawal a businessman and Alhaji Lawan Kareto a philanthropist.
Speaking at the meeting, the aspirants pledged to ensure the success of the party come 2015 general elections.
Alhaji Kashim Imam, one of the aspirants specifically pointed out that he was in the race to salvage the state from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Imam said that the state had been relegated to the background because of its position as an opposition state.
“We have resolved that no amount of sacrifice will be too big in our quest to take the state to the centre this time around. We want to be on the same page with the Federal Government, we are tired of been in the opposition,’’ he said.
Imam said that the state had lost so many opportunities from the Federal Government due largely because it belonged to the opposition.
“We have decided to team up with the PDP elders in the state to find lasting solution to the problem. We have decided to effect change in the state come 2015 gubernatorial election,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Alhaji Baba Basharu, Borno PDP chairman said that the stakeholders had decided to bury their differences and forge a common front towards winning the 2015 elections.
