The Chairman of Unity Bank Plc and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and senatorial aspirant in Katsina-Central, Alhaji Lamis Dikko has stressed that the only way to put federal government abandoned dams in Katsina to proper use is by the state government lobbying the federal government to hand them over to them.

Dikko, who stated this in an interview with newsmen, yesterday in Katsina, said the state government can also in the alternative request for the three dams of Zobe, Jibia and Sabke to be leased to them by the federal government.

He similarly averred that the dams, if put to proper use, could generate employment, promote agro-allied industries and tourism in the area, stating that irrigation could serve as a huge revenue earner for the state.

He added “if you look at our environment the large percentage of our people are engaged in agriculture. This irrigation farming is one of the ways through which Rural-Urban drift could be addressed in the state”.

Dikko recalled that in 2005 during the tenure of late President Umaru Musa ‘Yar’adua as governor of the state, he lead a team of Chinese investors on inspection of these dams to ascertain their economic viability.

On the economic woes facing the north, the senatorial aspirant has tasked northerners to look inwards to address the issues of education to produce employable graduates and changed their orientation towards certain issues.
