The recent call by Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for President Goodluck Jonathan and Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari not to contest the 2015 election received another boost when a Northern Christian group supported the idea, saying President Jonathan’s administration brought nothing but pains to Nigerians.

It could be recalled that few weeks ago, the Kaduna based Islamic scholar, Dr Gumi advised both President Jonathan and General Buhari not to contest the 2015 presidential election for peace to reign in the country.

The cleric’s call generated reactions from supporters of both President Jonathan and General Buhari, calling the scholar names.

But the Northern Christian clerics under a forum called Eagle Eye forum threw their weights behind Dr Gumi saying Nigeria today is battered on all sides by Boko Haram, social and economic problems, poverty among others.

In a statement signed by the group Chairman and Secretary, Pastor Aminchi Habu and Reverend Samuel respectively, the forum urged the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to rescue the country from the bad leadership of ruling party.

“We have reflected over the development and wish to support Sheikh Gumi’s call to President Jonathan and former Head of state, Buhari to both step aside from the presidential race in order to prevent this country from total collapse.

“We believe that Nigeria needs practical leaders who have the requisite experience such as Atiku Abubakar or those with the drive needed to tackle the numerous problems of the country, people like Sam Nda-Isiah and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” he said.

The group further called on the APC delegates and leaders to cast their votes wisely and to support the presidential candidate with leadership qualities to deliver the change Nigerians are yearning for.
