2015: PDP chieftain declares support for Buhari aspiration

Date:

From Mohammad Ibrahim, Kaduna

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Bauchi State, Alhaji Hassan Sharriff Muhammad, yesterday declared that his support is with former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, as presidential candidates not with President Goodluck Jonathan come 2015 election.

According to him, Jonathan has failed Nigeria which is why his loyalty remains with the former Head of state despite their party differences.

Hassan, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Arewan Bauchi, disclosed this to newsmen in Kaduna.

He described Buhari as an honest human being, with integrity, who has governed the country with sincerity.

“I am still a card carrying member of PDP in Bauchi and a closed friend to current PDP chairman, Adamu Mu’azu and former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Bala Muhammad but I still feel it was wrong to endorse President Jonathan as a sole candidate come 2015.

“What has Jonathan’s administration brought to Nigeria if not pains? We need to go beyond party politics to support people with leadership qualities and that is what I am doing now by supporting General Buhari,” he said.

The PDP chieftain categorically pointed out that there are lot of PDP members that shared same view with him in this regards come 2015 election.

“We are only shifting ground because we are not happy with the endorsement of President Jonathan by the party. This is because we know he lacks the quality to govern Nigeria. I in particular only support good candidate not a party,” he said.

He added that Nigeria is beyond a political party and so his support for a good candidate is based on nationalism and patriotism.

Asked where his loyalty will be if Buhari failed to win in the APC primary election, he said “I know that all the Presidential aspirants in APC are far better than President Jonathan, so I will wait to see who picks the tickets among them but for now, my support is with Buhari,” he said.

He therefore urged APC delegates to make sure they vote for an honest leader that will take Nigeria to greater heights.
