Nigeria assumes leadership of Federation of African Engineering Organisations

Immediate past President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Mustafa Balarabe Shehu, emerged as President of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) at the 11th General Assembly of the federation which held at the National Engineering Centre, Abuja during the recently concluded World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure.

 A statement from the NSE Headquarters signed by Head, Media and Publications, Abdulkadir Aliyu said during the handing-over formalities, immediate past President of FAEO, Engr. Dr. Martin Van Veelen, while thanking members of the body for the tremendous support during his tenure, urged the top echelon of member countries to extend same to the new President and his Executive Committee.

 The emergence of Shehu as the President of FAEO has come on the heels of the call by the President of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), Engr. Marwan Abdel Hamid for Nigeria to brace-up and galvanize other African nations for the strengthening of FAEO.

 Abdel Hamid had stated that a vibrant body was required for African Engineers to take their rightful position in the global arena of engineering professionals.

 Engr. Mustafa Shehu has, amongst other responsibilities, the mandate of actualising the “Abuja Declaration” which is focused on encouraging and assisting African nations yet to establish national engineering bodies to do same; with a view to giving engineering professionals a voice in development speak in their respective countries as well as bringing them into the continental fold of FAEO.

 Stakeholders across the globe are optimistic that Engr. Shehu will provide purposeful leadership for the continental body and position it to provide a central framework for galvanizing African Engineers, advancing the interest of the engineering profession at the continental level and presenting to the respective national governments advises geared towards speedy infrastructural development.
