BUK elevates Mass Communication department to Faculty

The authorities of Bayero University Kano, has elevated its Mass Communication department to a full-fledged faculty.

Head of Mass Communication Department of the university, Dr. Balarabe Mai’kaba, who announced the development in a welcome speech he delivered during the Mock Annual General Meeting of MACLEV 3 Communication PLC, said the new faculty has been christened Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

‘The institution during its last management meeting has approved the upgrading of Mass Communication department to a full –fledged faculty”, the Head of Department announced.

Dr. Mai’kaba said the new faculty would kick off with 3 Departments next year.

 He listed the new departments as Journalism, Marketing Communication and Visual Art respectively.

He said the University management has awarded the construction of a new complex for the faculty, adding that contract for the construction of the ultramodern studio for the new faculty has also been awarded.

Mai’kaba said the field of Mass Communication remains an engine room of democracy, stressing that “without the media, there would be no democracy”.

He stated that the development is line with the resolve to make the field ‘mother of excellence’ for it to confront the emerging challenges on the field of Communication and Media studies.
