Illumination professionals seek FG, power distribution companies’ partnership on energy efficient lighting

The Association of Illumination Professionals, AIP, rose from their two-day conference which held in Abuja with a seven-point communiqué stating among other things, the need for the power distribution companies and the federal government to partner in order to encourage the use of energy efficient lighting systems by providing incentives such as rebates and lower tariff to the consuming public.

President of the association, Engineer Ajadi Abdulwahab who read the communiqué to Journalists during the weekend, also urged the Millennium Development Agencies, MDAs and Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, to partner with the association to provide proper awareness to the public on the use of energy efficient lighting systems.

He urged the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to sustain the drive for policies that encourage the use of energy efficient technologies, systems and devices pertaining to energy efficient lights.

The communiqué also called on the National Assembly, NASS, to speedily pass into law, the national energy master plan and policy draft bill currently before it to enable the immediate implementation of the national efficiency policies contained therein.
