Indication emerged last night that Taraba state new acting governor, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi has commenced the process to probe the two years’ administration of ousted acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar.
The process, which started with gathering of financial transactions of the state from banks in state capital, saw officials of the government holding meetings with Zenith Bank and UBA bank officials, where the government account is domiciled.
As at time of this report, the new acting governor had set up a 13-man panel to probe the former acting governor.
Danladi was directed by the state House of Assembly yesterday to resume as the state acting governor, following his victory at the Supreme Court on Friday.
Sources close to the new government told our correspondent last night that the new acting governor has been mandated by political associates of ailing governor Danbaba Suntai to probe all the activities of Umar while he was the state Chief Executive.
“I can confirm to you that the new government will probe activities of the state in the last two years under Umar. We are aware of a lot of petition against Umar at the anti-corruption agencies, the state government will also audit its activities and take appropriate measures where necessary,” the source said.
Political watchers in the state said the probe might be to embarrass the ousted acting governor, who has been at loggerhead with Suntai’s political associates.
However, the camp of the ousted acting governor has remained and is set to be preparing for the PDP primary election, after Umar was cleared by the PDP screening committee in Bauchi state at the weekend.
They however declined to comment on the move to probe its leader.
Meanwhile, following the sudden resignation of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Josiah Sabo Kente yesterday morning, Mark Useni Bako representing Takum 11 constituency emerged the speaker of the state assembly.
Kente told journalists yesterday in Jalingo that he had forwarded his resignation letter to the Clerk of the Assembly.
The Speaker said he took the decision in the interest of peace in the state.
Kente was elected Speaker in November 2013, following the death of his predecessor, late Mr. Haruna Tsokwa.
