From Mohammad Ibrahim, Kaduna
National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations(NACOMYO) yesterday condemned in strong terms the last Friday attacks at the ancient Kano Central Mosque that claimed hundreds of lives; bombing of Maiduguri Fish Market as well as an attempt to take over Damaturu, on Monday, by Boko Haram insurgents.
The group described the unprovoked attacks as ungodly, cowardly, un-Islamic, barbaric, anti Muslims and uncivilized.
NACOMYO in a statement signed by its National Secretary-General, Binyamin Atanda Yusuf said perpetrators of these attacks are really acting against the divine law enshrined in holy-Qur’an.
He said one wonders who the real perpetrators of these dastard acts are, asking if they are really Muslims who say they are striving to establish a caliphate in Nigeria.
“The council frowns at the conducts and practices of all intelligent apparatus in operation in Nigeria because our present predicament suggests their non-existent;
“The council commends the indefatigable Civilian JTF, the vigilantes and members of the Nigerian armed forces that still believe in this nation and are ready to sacrifice their lives for its survival;
“Council calls upon the federal government to overhaul Nigerian defense system to meet the international standard and the current needs and aspirations of Nigerians; to institute a panel to probe the high level corruption going on in the Ministry of Defence and Defence headquarters, especially on the issues of weapons and ammunition procurement because presently, Nigerian defense machineries are over-ageing and becoming obsolete, the statement said.
The group further urged Muslims to continue with prayers to Allah to intervene by ending the killing of Muslims in the north, as they sympathized with the Sultan on the happenings in the region.
