PDP amends own constitution as delegates elect Mu’azu as chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has amended its constitution at the party’s special national convention holding in Abuja.

The chairman of the convention electoral panel, Senator Ken Nnamani said with the development section 33 sub-section 1 and section 47 sub-sections 6 of the PDP constitution stands amended.

Disclosing this Thursday at the special convention held to ratify the president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan that section 3-1 of the PDP constitution allows for all former PDP state governors to automatically become members of the party’s executive committee.

The party which submitted forms to delegates at the convention arrived at the decision to amend the party’s constitution having gotten a total of 2672 votes cast in support of the amendment out of the 2691 delegates at the convention.

Chairman of the convention electoral panel, Senator Ken Nnamani stated while declaring the results that:”our party’s constitution has been amended.”

Earlier, Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State moved a motion seeking the amendment to the party’s constitution and was seconded by Minister of State for power, Mohammed Wakil.

Similarly, the party has resolved to amend its manifesto for 2015 to 2019. Motion for the amendment was moved by PDP national Legal Adviser, Victor Ekwon and seconded by the party’s national youth leader.

Meanwhile, national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu whose position was ratified by the party through voting by delegates in his acceptance speech said “under my watch the party will continue to grow from strength to strength.”

The PDP boss advised members of the party who won the recently conducted primaries to carry those defeated along in the scheme of things to ensure unity and success of the party.

He said the present administration has fulfiled the PDP manifesto and called on Nigerians to be conscious of national sovereignty, constitutional governance, rule of law, national unity and security.

He stressed that: “I will continue the process of reconciliation in the party and deepen its participatory politics and internal democracy.”

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for “transforming all sectors of the economy” and “accepting to renew his mandate from 2015 to 2019.”

Delegates at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention last night elected Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu , Professor Wale Oladipo and Adeyanju as the substantive national chairman, secretary and auditor of the party.

Mu’azu scored a total of 2672 votes out of the 2691 total votes cast and while Oladipo scored a total of 2639 votes out of the 2646 total votes cast, Adeyanju scored a total of 2575 out of the 2596 votes cast.

Announcing the winners, chairman of the national convention electoral panel, Senator Ken Nnamani said the officials having scored the required number of votes have “been returned elected.”

Delegates from different states were seen queuing up and casting their votes freely. Even thought national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu and secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo have been steering the affairs of the party, the party said their positions must be ratified through voting by delegates in order to officially confirm them as substantive national leaders of the party
