From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua, Katsina

An election monitoring group, Justice and Equity Organisation, has chided the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its poor handling of Permanent voter Card, PVC and continuous voter card, CVR distribution in Katsina state.

Addressing a press conference, yesterday in Katsina, Mr. Romanus Azibuike said the performance of INEC regarding the exercise fall short of commendation.

He noted that since the commencement of the exercise, INEC was unable to release about 3.5 permanent registered cards as recorded in the 2011 general election.

He further disclosed that despite this release there was, according to him, a short fall of over a million voter cards that were not released for the state.

Azubuike said, “It is uncertain as to when the remaining permanent voters’ cards of over one million will arrive the state and how it will finally get to the original owners”.

He, therefore, questioned the preparedness of INEC to meet the challenges of the forthcoming general election.

Azubuike similarly called on INEC and other relevant agencies to urgently address the situation in Katsina state and other states that share similar problems.
