Voters to use card readers in 2015 elections – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that voters in 2015 elections would use card readers in the process of accreditation before voting.

This is to be made possible because of the type of voter register that is in existence as NUJ says the conduct of a credible election is a collective responsibility.

Mr. Victor Agbanwaneten, Head, Voters Education, Publicity and Civil Society Organization, disclosed this when he presented a lecture , titled ” Towards Credible 2015 elections”, at this year’s Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week in Yenagoa yesterday assured that electoral malpractices hitherto experienced in the voting system such as multiple registration and multiple voting are to be things of the past.

Agbanwaneten further disclosed that the Commission is putting in place what is termed the re-modified open ballot system that will enable voters vote in secret but drop the ballot in the box in the most open and transparent manner as possible.

In his opening remark, Mr. Taranto Akono, the Chairman of the state chapter of the NUJ, who decried the actions of politicians in the on gong elections, pointed out that the conduct of credible elections is a collective task.

He stated that most politicians are either anointed or supported by god fathers, and that is why the electorate must exercise their votes and also speak out.
