NESREA seals-off 8 filling stations and 5 quarry sites in Ekiti

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed-off eight filling stations and five quarry sites in Ado-Ekiti over violation of environmental regulations.

The Ekiti Director of the agency, Mr Ajani Adeleke, disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday at the send-forth ceremony organised by Forum of Heads of Federal Establishment for some of its retired members.

Adeleke said the stations and quarry sites failed to comply with regulations guiding their operations in the state.

According to him, the violations include failure to abide by the 10 metres set back regulation for residential areas, not having Environmental Inverse Statement and noise pollution caused by their generators.

The director enjoined the general public to report violation of any kind to the agency’s nearest office.

He reiterated NESREA’s commitment to ensuring healthy environment for Nigerian citizens through regulations.

Adeleke advised residents to report to the agency, any complaints or cases of violation of environmental laws through mobile phone number 08174634760.

He said the agency would handle their reports or complaints with utmost secrecy.

Adeleke gave the assurance that the agency would deal with people found wanting irrespective of their social status.

The Chairman of the forum, Chief Dele Fagbemi, charged members to perform well whenever they are given an opportunity to serve.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some members of the forum were given awards for their excellent performances as heads of federal establishment.

The awardees include Mr Modupe Osewole, who retired as Ekiti State Correspondent of NAN in 2012 and former General Manager, Radio Nigeria, Ado-Ekiti, Mr Dare Olorunfemi.

The third awardee, Mr Abimbola Oni, was the former Ekiti State Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment before she left for Osun. (NAN)
