Delta evacuates 73 students from Adamawa schools

In line with its commitment to the welfare of Deltans anywhere in the globe, Delta state government has evacuated 73 students from various higher institutions in Adamawa State as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.

Addressing the students shortly after their arrival in Asaba on Monday, the Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Pastor Powell Ojogho, thanked God for their safety, saying that necessary machineries were being put in place by the state government through the Ministry of Higher education to absorb the students into higher institutions in the state.

His word, “I spoke with my colleague, the Hon. Commissioner for Higher Education, prof. hope Eghagha. He said they (Students) should write a letter to him because the governor has directed that our children who are in the affected areas should come back home.”

“We will first identify the course they are studying over there and also get some documents from them to show that they were actually students and see if we have those courses here in our schools, university/ polytechnics, colleges of education and we will absorb them”.

He condemned the activities of the Boko haram sect in strong terms, just as he advised all delta state students in violence prone areas in the North occasioned by insurgency to return home to avoid unpleasant consequences.

In an interview, the president of national Association of Delta Students (NADESTU), Federal polytechnic, Mubi Chapter comrade Jeffery James while narrating their ordeal in the hands of Boko Haram said they lost two students to the Islamic sect.

It was a terrible experience; we trekked several kilometres to our border with Cameroon for safety. Sadly we lost two of our colleagues. May their souls rest in peace”.

He commended the state government for coming to rescue them, saying that they were ready and prepared to return home to complete their education.
