President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reiterated his commitments towards the provision of houses for all classes of Nigerian workers.
Speaking during the flag off of the nationwide mass housing scheme of 100, 000 houses for workers in Nigeria, the President noted that the task of provision of houses is critical for all governments.
He stated that government is partnering with the Nigerian Labour Unions and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who will work with stake holders to provide the housing units for workers all over the federation.
President Jonathan who noted that 1, 205 houses would be constructed at the Apo Tafiya project site, venue of the flag off said; “This administration recognises the importance of workers welfare in the sustenance of the economy”.
Speaking also at the event, the minister of lands housing and urban development, Mrs Akon Eyakenyi said government, had added a total of 43, 125 housing units to the national housing stock, in collaboration with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), from 2010 till date.
The project contractor Prince Ukachukwu said 22, 000 of the house would be built in Abuja, for various categories of low income earners adding that the project is expected to empower between 5-10 million people, before its completion.
