NEMA, UNHCR train medical personnel on Camp Management

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have trained doctors, nurses, teachers, Civil Defense and State Emergency Management Agency as stakeholders for better camp coordination and management for the internally displaced persons (IDPS) in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states.

Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi said the training was imperative based on findings of assessment which identified some gaps in the management of the IDPs in the states.

He said the trained officers are selected from all the relevant sectors including health, protection, Water and sanitation, education and Camp coordination and camp management.

According him, “the training/workshop exercise is aimed at building the capacity of different actors in the camp management. The participants were availed with the underpinning knowledge of Camp Administration Agency (CA), Camp Coordination Agency (CC) and Camp Management Agency (CM), which are very important for effective care of the people taking refuge in camps. The training also provide for roles identification and responsibilities of stakeholders in camp management.”

Meanwhile, participants at the training are stakeholders currently working in different locations of IDP Camps Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.

The stakeholders also selected on sector-based gap analysis (Health, Protection, WASH, Education and CCCM sectors), and they comprised of doctors, nurses, teachers, Civil Defense officers and others from NEMA North East Zonal Office, NEMA Gombe Operation office and SEMAs of the Northeastern states.

The training, however, covered ten modules facilitated by a team of trainers, comprising of Auwal Abubakar (NEMA), Peter Akanimor (Global Relief), Musa Umar Farouk (JNI) and supported by the staff of NHCR sub office Bauchi.
