As Christians all over the World celebrate Christmas, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) yesterday warned motorists against over speeding and overloading so as to avoid accidents along highways.

According to the commission they have started arresting overloaded vehicles on the main roads.

Speaking during ‘Operation Eagle Eye’, organised by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), along Kaduna-Abuja highway, Representative of FRSC Kaduna Zonal Commander, Ibrahim Sarki Abubakar cautioned against over speeding, particularly during the festive season.

“We are happy that NEMA always stand by us by helping us to sensitize people, particularly motorists against over speed and overloading. These are among major factors causing accidents on our major roads.

“We have already started arresting defaulted drivers because we want to have a accidents free Christmas season. We commend NEMA for their support,” he added.

Earlier, NEMA’s Zonal Coordinator, North-West Zone, Musa Ilallah, said Operation Eagle Eye is aimed at showing support to activities of FRSC, especially during the Christmas season.

“Our men are deployed at all major highways in the state. If you go to Kaduna- Zaria, Kaduna- Birnin-Gwari highway, Kaduna -Abuja our men are there sensitizing drivers to drive with care and our emergency vehicles are stationed in such roads ready for any emergency,” he said.

He said NEMA, this time around, wants to ensure a free accident Christmas and New Year season.
