A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti on Monday threatened to sentence a drug dealer, Ejibo Peter, 22, to life imprisonment if found guilty of same or any offences bothering on illicit drug peddling.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Presiding Judge, Justice Adamu Hobon, while delivering judgment sentenced Peter to four years in prison without option of fine.
He warned peter against coming before the court the third time, saying if he did the court might be forced to give him a more severe punishment such as life imprisonment.
“I have considered the plea for guilt by the convict and the evidence before the court as presented by the prosecution.
“I hereby find Peter guilty of the one-count charge brought against him. The convict is hereby sentence to four years in prison without option of fine to serve as deterrent to like- minded individuals,” Hobon ordered.
The NDLEA prosecutor, MrIlyaWaji, had earlier told the court that Peter was caught in possession of 250 grammes of Indian hemp on March 22 at Ijoka Street, Ado-Ekiti.
According to Waji, the offence committed by the convict contravened Section 11 (c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He also told the court that the convict had been convicted on a similar offence before.
Peter, who was not represented by any counsel, had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him. (NAN)
