Agabi is no match for Al-makura – Sandaji

Date:

Gov-Al-makuraBy Ali Abare Abubakar

A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Sandaji, has described the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general election, Alhaji Yusuf Agabi as a political neophyte and is therefore not a match for Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura.

Sandaji made the comparison yesterday in a chat with journalists, stressing that the emergence of Agabi as the torch bearer of the PDP has brightened the chances of Governor Al-makura’s return in 2015.

Sandaji said Agabi’s profile as a civil servant who left service barely less than a year ago and is yet to establish a niche in the political ecosystem of the state is no match for Al-makura whose towering credentials since assumption of office suffices to ensure his return to office.

He said Al-makura’s strength derives primarily from the fact that he is widely popular with the electorates who have come to identify him as the change factor given the twelve wasteful years of the PDP in the state which resulted in protest vote that saw their ouster in 2011.

“His accomplishments are a huge boost to his popularity because it is on record that within the past three years of his administration Nasarawa State has witnessed development surpassing all the administrations since the state was created in 1996” he said.

He noted that the failed impeachment attempt by the PDP dominated state assembly, which was largely interpreted as victimization for his developmental crusade, has also aroused sympathy for Al-makura who is now widely regarded as the martyr for the socio-political emancipation of the people of the state whose apathy for the PDP increases as his achievements redoubles.

The APC chieftain however cautioned the party not to take his candidature for granted saying he must be tackled with all the strength that can be mustered.

“We would fight him like an elephant only to discover eventually that he is an ant and offer our due apologies” he joked.
