Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has continued with the indefinite strike action that commenced on the 2nd January 2015.
The action according to the union is based on government failure to implement the judgment of the federal high court and what it termed as breach of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reached at the end of the meeting held by the supervising minister of Labour and Productivity, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, leadership of the union and other stakeholders.
In a statement signed by National Assistant Secretary of the union, P. Nnamani Esq, the union, at the state level had advocated for state governors to implement the judgment delivered by high court on 13th January 2014 which had met deaf ears.
The union had gotten a judgment in their favour which had served the Federal Accountant General, State Accountants General and States Auditors General to comply with.
According to the union, it had threatened to proceed on a warning strike on 26th February 2014 and indefinite strike on 9th July 2014 but for the intervention of minister of Labour. “On resumption of duty by the present minister, the union had several meetings which gave rise to MoU of 27th November 2014”, said the union.
JUSUN is certain that the judgment debtors (state governors) are deliberately disobeying the independence judiciary. “The action amounts to a level of insincerity and insensitivity and insecurity in the process of democratic principles.
They have conspired, not to allow a constitutional guaranteed and provided partners carry out its duty”, the union lamented.
