The performance of the ground breaking of the 8 Districts, of the about the 10 Districts of the
Abuja Land Swap Initiative, by President Goodluck Jonathan, earlier slated for today (January 8), in in Waru District, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been suspended till unknown date, the FCT Administration said.
In a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Sule, yesterday, the FCT Administration did not give any reason for the suspension, but noted that the general public would however be informed of the new date for the flag-off.
“The FCT Administration wishes to announce the suspension of the groundbreaking ceremony of 8 Districts out of the 10 Districts of the Land Swap Initiative earlier scheduled for tomorrow, January 8, 2015.
“It could be noted that the groundbreaking ceremony for the provision of engineering infrastructure in the 8 districts of Phase IV (South) within the Federal Capital City (FCC), which is on the basis of the FCT initiative of leveraging on its land resource for infrastructure provision, is to signal it official takeoff,” the statement explained.
Recall that the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, had explained that the flagging off is meant to also jump start development in those areas to bid farewell to Land Speculation, freezing and racketeering in the Territory.
According to the minister, it is estimated that the initiative will provide additional housing for more than 1,000,000 residents, and will further reduce the housing deficit by about 35% in the next 5 years.
He added that it would put more money in the hands of FCT Administration for human development activity, particularly in the areas of health and education; it will further provide more than 500,000 jobs.
