Agric ministry, OSGF signs MoU on acquisition of multi-spacial Imageries

In an effort to provide farmers with timely knowledge of contemporary agricultural activities, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and the Office of the Survey-General of the Federation (OSGF) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the provision of auto-photo imageries.

The target impact of the MOU is to empower farmers with the knowledge of the type of crops to plant and areas suitable for agricultural activities, as well as facilitate climate change management.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of FMARD, Sonny Echono, emphasized that the MoU was necessary saying, “knowing where to plant, what to plant, the conditions and nutrients required are based on this type of data generated from the OSGF, as it would enable the Ministry to provide land information and management of climate change for farmers.”

Furthermore on the modalities and objective of the MoU, Echono stated that the signing was to primarily enable the Ministry acquires some of the multi-spacial imageries and the use of multi-user license from the OSGF.

In his remarks, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Prof. Peter Nwilo, who pledged to ensure the transfer of a Deputy Director from his office to the FMARD to enable the advancement of its set objectives, also disclosed that the Federal Government had procured 25 of these auto-photo imageries, with indication of interest for its purchase from various ministries.

“The basis of the MoU which will serve as a planning tool will feature staff training components, as well as provide insight to the type of soil nutrients required based on the interpretation of the information from the Office of the Survey-General,” he explained.
