The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the state governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwunmi Ambode, accusing him of spending N6.7 bn on campaigns.

PDP in a statement signed by it Publicity Secretary, Gani Taofik accused the APC governorship candidate of breaching section 91 of the electoral act 2010 as amended which stipulates maximum #200,000,000 as fund permitted to be spent by a governorship candidate.

The PDP however called on security agencies to interrogate Ambode whilst demanding that INEC should summarily disqualify the APC Candidate.

The PDP said that “its intelligence team has detected that Ambode has spent at least #6.7 billion on campaign strategies placed as: employing expatriates, board adverts, radio and television Jingles, souvenirs, vehicles and campaign houses etc”. These the party asserts have been made possible by the over N32 billion federal government Local government funds for three months now diverted into the Ambode Campaigns,” Taofik alleged.

The party also accused Governor Fashola of deploying all government property and paraphernalia to support Ambode.

“Fashola has deployed all state advantages to support Ambode. We call on well meaning Lagosians to condemn these actions. It is our expectation that Fashola would stop his obvious support for Ambode at the expense of governance in the state.

“We are not worried that Ambode’s campaign is aggressive. It in fact it suggests that the APC has nothing to be comfortable about in their governance for 16 years. We are however uncomfortable because Ambode has spent over N6.7 billion on his campaigns and this fund is made available by Fashola who is now starving the local government councils.
