Odumakin tasks women on numerical strength during elections.

The President, Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin on Tuesday urged women in the country to use their numerical strength to vote for women aspiring for public offices irrespective of political party in the forthcoming general elections.

The human right crusader and women advocates stated this in Ibadan at a One Day Female Political Aspirants’ Capacity Enhancement Workshop held at Premier Hotel, Ibadan, adding that it is time for women to liberate themselves politically.

According to her, “women can no longer be silence. It is high time we use our numerical strength to determine the future of the entire women

“Women should go and collect their PVC to exercise their right. Nobody should use women as spare-tyre because women remain life wire of any entity”, she said.

Odumakin noted that women constitute over half of the nation’s population, contributing in vital ways to societal development, wondering why they have remained irrelevant in the society.

In her remarks, the former president of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dame Priscilla Kuye, who chaired the occasion said there are many factors militating against women.

She said the factors include; lack of political and economic empowerment.

She urged women to support other women who are competing to assume various political offices saying men would not give what they have politically to women.

Also speaking, one of the presidential candidates in the forthcoming election from KOWA party, Professor Remi Sonaiya said it is time for women to earn respect and dignity and not to be used by others.

She urged other women who are in the race for various offices to keep eyes on the goals and objectives, saying there are efforts working tirelessly to pull down women.
