The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Nasarawa state chapter has advocated for a peaceful conduct in the forthcoming general elections.
The state NBA chairman, Barrister Gabriel Ortan Akaaka Esq., made the call in his welcome address at a one day workshop jointly organized by the NBA Lafia and Keffi branches on the 2015 election held yesterday at Ibrahim Abacha youths center, Lafia, the state capital.
According to him, the theme of this workshop is: “Sensitization on Peaceful Elections and Sustainable Development in Nasarawa State primarily aimed at sensitizing the electorates in the state on the need for a peaceful, fair, violence free, transparent and credible 2015 elections, and to ensure that every eligible Nigeria participates in the elections of those who are to be entrusted with the affairs of the nation.”
The chairman, however, lamented that, “Our quest in this country for a peaceful, fair, free, transparent and credible election is threaten by serious challenges raging from insurgency in the North East, ethnic conflict which has rendered several communities displaced, kidnapping and brigandage in the South East and South West, endemic corruption and poor leadership is in every fabric of our nation.”
