Benue State Security Council yesterday announced a five million bounty on anyone who will volunteer accurate information that could lead to the arrest of those who assassinated elder brother of Sen.. Gabriel Suswam, Terkura Suswam.
Governor Ortom who announced this while briefing Journalists after the meeting of the council, also imposed dusk to dawn curfew in Sankera axis consisting of three local governments of Ukum, Katsina-Ala and Logo.
He also, announced the ban on motorcycles as well as use of Toyota Corolla popularly called Duck Nyash for both private and commercial purposes, urging security agencies to arrest anyone who violates this directive.
The council further insisted that all commercial vehicles plying the axis must be properly documented with the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and must operate from a motor park even as they charged all the chairmen to enforce this order.
“As Security Council, we condemn the application of an illustrious who contributed immensely in adding value to our society. For him to be assassinated in this manner, is really bad.
“The council has declared total war on criminals and bandits. The security agencies have assured that they will apprehend the assassins.
Concerning the tension in the country particularly the abduction of of School children, he said the council constituted a committee headed by the Security Adviser and also made up of the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, all security agencies, local government chairmen and traditional rulers to embark on sensitization in the 23 local government areas.
“Schools in the State will not br closed down. However, as a way of taking proactive steps, security will be mounted in strategic places and we urged everyone to be alert and inform security agencies of any suspicious elements.
“The commissioner for Education is to sensitize all schools both boarding and Day to take precautionary security measures. We implore all stakehokders, parents, traditional rulers including all local government chairmen to be security conscious and give prompt information to security agencies about criminals and bandits”, he advised.
