The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved various disciplinary actions against 31 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following a thorough review of their cases.
The sanctions, which include dismissals, compulsory retirement, and demotion, underscore the Board’s commitment to upholding integrity and discipline within the service.
The decision stems from the recommendations of the Board Disciplinary and General-purpose Committee (BDGPC), which met on July 11, 2025, to deliberate on the disciplinary matters.
Breakdown of Disciplinary Actions
According to a press statement signed by the NIS Service Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the disciplinary measures approved by the CDCFIB are as follows:
Dismissal: Eight officers were dismissed from the service for serious misconduct and outright violation of Service Regulations.
Compulsory Retirement: Five officers were compulsorily retired due to offences bothering on misconduct.
Demotion: Eight officers were demoted by one rank.
Warning: Five officers were issued written warning letters for misconduct.
In addition, the Board reviewed appeals from dismissed officers. Appeals from two officers were rejected due to a lack of merit, while one officer is to be reinstated following a successful appeal. Furthermore, two officers were exonerated of the charges preferred against them.
Junior Personnel Dismissed for Criminal Offenses
The statement further revealed the dismissal of two junior personnel for criminal conspiracy and proven allegations of kidnapping.
Aliyu Usman (AII) and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi (CIA) were dismissed after internal disciplinary proceedings were concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025, respectively. Their offences involved stealing, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping.
The Nigeria Immigration Service, led by Comptroller-General KN Nandap, reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards across all ranks.
The actions were taken under the supervision of the CDCFIB Chairman and Hon. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The NIS assured the public that the disciplinary actions will be carried out “without fear or favour and in strict compliance with extant rules and regulations.”
