The Nigerian Army says it is contributing to the growth of education in the country through its Command secondary schools.
Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, said this at the opening of the division’s 2024 Education First Quarter Conference, which held at the Command Secondary School, Jos .
Abubakar, who doubles as the Commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Brig.-Gen. M.O. Agi.
The GOC highlighted the Nigerian Army Education Corps’ commitment to building sustainable platforms for educational development.
He explained that the conference would provide a valuable platform for educators to exchange ideas, learn from experts, and update their knowledge on current developments in their fields.
”Education is not only essential for professional growth, but also serves as a catalyst for personal advancement, shaping officers and soldiers into well-equipped leaders capable of addressing the diverse challenges on the battlefield.
”This division under my watch will continue to provide the needed support for families of personnel, by ensuring access to quality educational opportunities,” Abubakar said.
Also speaking, Maj.-Gen. Bello Tsoho, the Commander, Nigerian Army Education Corps, emphasised the importance of elevating the standards of education within command schools to maintain academic excellence.
He also harped on the need to upgrade educational institutions to meet global evolving challenges.
According to him, the importance of innovative methodologies, best practices and strategic collaborations, to enhance service delivery and shape future leaders, cannot be overemphasised.
Represented by Maj.-Gen. Adebukola Oguntola, the Rector, Nigerian Army College of Science and Technology, Makurdi, Tsoho said that the education corps would reposition all command schools for the benefit of army personnel, their families and host communities.
In his address of welcome, the Acting Director, Education Service, 3 division, Lt.-Col. Tarfa Musa, explained that the conference was aimed at bringing together key stakeholders in the field of education to share ideas and reorient teachers of all command schools.
Musa added that objective of the conference was to enhance capacity of staff towards effective teaching and learning, and improve the level of discipline in the administration of command schools.
