A Civil Society Organization (CSO), under the auspices of Progressive Youth For Anti-Stolen Vote has called on Nigerian Youth and the general populace to as a matter of urgency accord all the necessary support to the judiciary in fighting election malpractice, which is violation of the electoral process.
The Chairman of the CSO, Comrade Muhammad Muhammad Dawakin Kudu made the call while briefing journalist at the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) centre Kano, on Thursday.
He said it is very pertinent to note that lack of adherence to electoral rules is a snag to development of the nation’s nascent democracy and nation building, noting that all hands should be put on deck to achieve the set objectives.
“Members of the press may we recall in Kano that the tribunal deducted the uncertified 165,663 votes without stamp, signed and date from Yusuf Abba Kabir and describe it invalid and unlawful votes considering the manual of INEC elections which stated clear that : a valid Vote must to be stamped ,signed and dated by polling Clack. For this purpose Abba reduced to 853,939 which were over 30,000 votes less than the 890,705 votes polles by Nasir Yusuf Gawuna.
“Consequently ,the court declared the APC candidate winner of the Kano Governorship election and orders INEC to withdraw Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Certificate of return and Issue it to Gawuna”, he stressed.
He also noted that on this basis the Association is calling on the law makers at the national level to ensure that the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria is strictly adhered to ,aimed at sustaining the development of the Nations democracy.
He added that the organization is drawing the attention of progressive teaming youth to support judiciary and security agencies in all ways of fighting bad attitude that may destroy national development and democracy.
