Kano state Police Command has arrested no fewer than 22 hardened thugs terrorizing Dorayi area of Gwale Local Government in Kano state.
The arrest came following a dirty clash between the armed thugs groups, which culminated to attack on innocent residents while returning from Tarawih prayer on Wednesday night.
In a swift reaction to the unfortunate development, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, convened a meeting with stakeholders of the Dorayi area with a view to addressing the thugs activities.
Addressing the gathering at the meeting, Mr Gumel disclosed that 22 notorious criminals have been arrested, warning that their parents or family members who come for bail would be held as accomplice.
He also declared 30 hardened criminals wanted, warning their parents and families members to produce them before they are captured.
The Police Commissioner disclosed that investigation had revealed that those criminals attacking innocent residents and worshippers are armed robbers disguising as thugs to unleash terror on innocent citizens.
He vowed to deal with anybody found trying to breach the relative peace being enjoyed in the state, especially in the month of Ramadan.
“We will not tolerate criminals hiding under the guise of Daba fighting to cause civic unrest in the state. Let me warn that parents who attempted to come forward seeking bail for their arrested children would be arrested as accomplice,” Mr Gumel said.
He said the command had deployed dozens of armed personnel and donated 1,000 canister teargas in order to restore law and order at the area.
He also said the Command is looking at the possibility of formation of anti-daba division as requested by the Dorayi stakeholders to forestall any unforseen circumstances and bring lasting peace at the area.
On their part, the community leaders of the area called on Police to gun down anybody who brandishing weapon to attack residents.
They commended the command for prompt intervention, which according to them, would bring peace at the community.
Some of the 30 wanted criminals, according to the CP, include Duguja, Baba Habu, Rigiji, Boris, Aminu Yankifi, Yasir, Tsasha, Cannavaro, Audu Bagwaya, Totti, Musa Kwata, Receiver Gida Gibirawa, Baba and Gundura, Na Lutu, among others.
