Tragedy was averted yesterday in Abuja when  some emergency operatives stopped a middle aged man, Shuaibu Alhaji Yusuf who had threatened to commit suicide over the prevailing hardship allegedly caused by insecurity and subsidy removal.

Yusuf had scaled a broadcast mast on Katampe Hill in the heart of Nigeria’s capital city, and threatened to jump, if the President Bola Tinubu’s led-Federal Government fails  to revert its policy on fuel subsidy removal and end insecurity.

It was gathered that the man attempted the suicide, who hails   from Maiduguri, Borno State had dropped a handwritten note demanding an end to issues of insecurity in parts of the northeast and the northwest.

According to him, his 9 points demands to government includes“On behalf of fellow Nigerians, I demand the following: Government should return fuel subsidy.  Government should declare state of emergency in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger and Borno on insecurity matters and take immediate action to clear those terrorism  in the above listed states and the country at large.

“Government should open borders for food impartation in order to eradicate food shortages in the country.

“Government should immediately respond to the problem of out of school children which is increasing rapidly.

“These are the major Nigerians’ problems and I’m ready to sacrifice my life for the solutions to them.

-I’m calling for(sic) fellow Nigerians to join me on this riot.”

However, it took the intervention of rescue team, from the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMD) that  arrived at the scene and persuaded him not to jump.

In particular, the FEMA team assured him that his demands would be channeled to the appropriate authorities.

Also, the security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, who were at the scene, later took him into custody, signalling his arrest.
