The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has urged its members across the country to disregard any report or action suggesting the dissolution or suspension of its current leadership.

The youth body was reacting to a recent publication claiming that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) had withdrawn its certificate of registration and appointed an interim management team.

In a statement signed by its President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, the NYCN insisted that the current leadership remains legitimate and recognised by law.

Sukubo cited a ruling by Justice D.U. Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which affirmed the validity of the council’s incorporation certificate and upheld his leadership as lawful.

“The judgment of the Federal High Court remains valid and subsisting until set aside by a higher court,” Sukubo said.

“Any attempt to withdraw our certificate or appoint an interim leadership is unlawful and amounts to contempt of court.”

He explained that the matter is currently before the Court of Appeal in suit number CA/ABJ/CV/13081/2023, with both the CAC and the Ministry listed as respondents.

The NYCN described the actions of the Registrar-General of CAC and the Minister of Youth Development as “a classic case of self-help” and a direct affront to judicial authority.

Sukubo urged all state chapters, zonal leaders, affiliate bodies and Nigerian youths to remain calm, law-abiding and united.

“We must continue to work together in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to build a stronger, united and progressive youth council that truly represents the aspirations of young Nigerians,” he said.
