A social activist, Collins Opuruzor, yesterday took a swipe at the Imo State House of Assembly, led by Paul Emeziem, for embarking on eight weeks recess, saying that the Assembly has achieved nothing within the period of its sitting.
The activist blamed the leadership of the Assembly for incompetence and for being a rubber-stamp of the State Governor because it failed to allow itself more time to execute more legislative work after the devastating periods of COVID-19, EndSARS protest and the recent PASSAN strike which lingered for too long.
The activist who is the current Director-General of New Media in Imo State PDP further accused the 9th Assembly of being willing tools in the hands of the executive arm.
He said, “It’s unfortunate that the current Imo state House of Assembly, is only bent on carrying out the instructions of the governor.
“Tell me what they have achieved within this period of Covid-19 lockdown, EndSARS protest and PASSAN strike? Absolutely nothing.
“If they were competent enough, they would have known that they needed more time to cover the trying periods which frustrated the legislative process.
“The leadership of the 9th has nothing to offer. That’s why they are acting the governor’s script.
“The speaker and members of his cabal are only bent on witch-hunting the minority members and denying them of their legislative rights.
“The only thing speaker Paul Emeziem achieved since his emergence, was demotion and suspension of members. Let’s see where this leads them to.”
The Speaker, Paul Emeziem, had on Tuesday, announced the commencement of 8 weeks recess for the Assembly.
