Jigawa, Liberian govt discuss cooperation in rice production

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi is in Monrovia on the invitation of the Vice President, of Liberia, Jeremiah Kpan Koung for further discussions on investment in rice production and its value chain.

Namadi who has also met with Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and other senior government officials.

“Our discussions have focused largely on agriculture, with particular attention on rice production and the practical ways we can work together moving forward.

“There is clear interest from Liberia in the progress we are making in Jigawa, especially in how we are developing the rice value chain. The work we are doing at home is beginning to draw attention, and that comes with responsibility.

“This visit is also a continuation of earlier engagements. Last year, their Deputy Minister of Agriculture, David Akoi, visited us in Dutse. We had useful exchanges then, and it is good to see that those discussions are now taking a more practical shape,” Namadi said.

The Jigawa governor said he went to Liberia with officials from Jigawa State Investment Promotion Agency and some experts in rice production.

“The focus has been on practical issues—what works, what can be improved, and where there is room to collaborate.

“We also had the Nigerian Embassy and private sector players involved in the discussions. That part is important, because at the end of the day, it is about real investment and real results.

“Back home in Jigawa, agriculture is still at the centre of what we are doing. If we get it right, it will touch many areas; food security, jobs, and the everyday lives of our people. We will keep pushing in that direction,” he assured.
