The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced a three-day workshop to review and harmonise proposed amendments to the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) Bill 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.

The workshop, which runs from September 10 to 12, 2026, at Bafra International Hotel in Kaduna State, has the theme: “Strengthening the Legal and Institutional Framework for Effective Healthcare Delivery in Kano State: Legislative Engagement, Harmonisation and Reform.”

The engagement brings together lawmakers, health-sector leaders, technical experts and other stakeholders to consider three major pieces of health legislation — the KSPHCMB Bill, Drug and Medical Consumables Supply Agency Bill and Health Training Institute Bill.

The proposed KSPHCMB amendment seeks to update the existing law enacted in 2014 and align the board’s mandate with current primary healthcare needs.

Speaking at the workshop, Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, said effective legislation was critical to strengthening coordination, accountability and sustainable healthcare delivery.

Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismaila Jibril Falgore, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammadu Bello Butu-Butu, urged lawmakers, technical experts and other stakeholders to collaborate in developing effective health-sector legislation.

Earlier, KSPHCMB Director-General, Prof. Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, said strengthening the legal and institutional framework would help sustain progress in primary healthcare and improve accountability and service delivery.
