A high-powered delegation of senior government officials and business leaders from Kano state has met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to ask for the immediate release of the ₦5 billion relief fund promised by the Federal Government for victims of the Singer Market fire disaster.
In a statement on Thursday, the Governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said the delegation reminded the Federal Government of the commitment made to support thousands of traders whose businesses and means of livelihood were destroyed by the inferno which occurred earlier this year.
The statement added that the prompt release of the intervention fund would bring much-needed relief to the affected traders and accelerate the recovery of commercial activities at the market.
Speaking during the meeting, leader of the delegation and Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya expressed appreciation of the government and people of Kano state to President Bola Tinubu for approving the intervention and appealed for the completion of the process to enable beneficiaries access the support without further delay.
In his response, the SGF, Sen. George Akume assured the delegation that the concerns raised had been noted and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of the Singer Market fire disaster.
Other members of the delegation include; the President of the Association of Kano Business Community, Alhaji Sabiu Bako; APC National Ex-Officio, Hon. Muhammad Jamu Yusuf; Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; and businessman, Alhaji Kabiru Adamu Gano.
