Kano State Government has distributed over 80 mattresses to fresh students schooling in the state under the Exchange Programme.
In a statement by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Direçtor Public Enlightenment Ministry of Education, the distribution is in line with the need of creating conducive learning atmosphere for 18 Northern States Students of schooling in Kano Distributing the mattresses to the students at Government Secondary School Gwarzo, the State Commissioner of Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa represented by the programme coordinator Malam Auwal Mustapha Gadon-Kaya, said the gesture was in line with present administration’s zeal of improving teaching and learning atmosphere of the students.
Doguwa explained that 50 mattresses were distributed to Exchange Students of Government Secondary School Gwarzo, while those in Government Girls Secondary School Shekara were given 30..
Doguwa expressed concerned that for more than ten years, the Students of the Exchange Programme had not been given this gesture despite the fact that it is part of the programme guidelines for the hosting state to provide the exchange students with mattresses, pillow, bucket, Beds and other things that would make them feel comfortable.
“ It is under the guidelines of the exchange programme for the hosting states to provide the students with Mattresses, Pillow, Bucket, Beds, pay their their WAEC/NECO fees and take care of their medical treatment.
“ When we came, we realized that these students have not been given mattresses and other items for more than ten years while our students at other states are still enjoying the same gesture. So, this government is now reintroducing the gesture, and for the first time, we distributed 80 mattresses to the fresh students of the exchange programme “ he announced.
He added that in trying to respond to the yearnings and aspirations of the teaming students hosted in the state, the present administration would continue to take bold steps of improving their learning environment to achieve objectives of the programme.
According to the Commissioner “ Education as the bedrock of any meaningful development which brings unity, peace and stability, we will do everything possible to ensure that our children acquire the qualitative education to make them useful in the society.
“ This present administration would therefore come up with more plans that further enhance the Students Exchange Programme to be the best among the participating States “ he assured.
The Principal of Government Secondary School Gwarzo Comrade Sani Haladu Gwarzo Commended the effort of the administration of Abba Kabiru Yusuf for reintroducing the gesture which he said, would go along way of improving the students learning condition.
