The League of Northern Democrats, LND has expressed concern with the recent negotiation with bandits by some state governments over the insecurity being perpetrating in their communities.
Disclosing this position through a press release issued by the Assistant National Secretary, Mahmood Tunde Hassan yesterday, the league condemned the act of any negotiations with bandits, describing it as “giving a criminal an express pass in the name of dialogue”.
The league insisted that such moves are unacceptable and amounts to legalizing terror in the society, advocating that the Northern Governors must assume responsibility for securing their states .
“LND expresses grave concerns over the recent so-called negotiations with known bandits.”
It said while all legitimate measures to end insecurity are welcome, giving criminals a free pass in the name of dialogue is unacceptable.
“Northern Governors must assume responsibility for securing their states as excuses of structural constraints are hallow, no law prevent them from protecting their people.
“Therefore, the LND calls on all stakeholders to rededicate themselves to repositioning the North within the Nigerian mainstream by tackling the existential challenges holding our nation”.
