Aminu Masari

Katsina State’s governor, Aminu Bello Masari, on Sunday said the security situation in the state, as it is, had improved, compared to what was the case previously. He thanked God for addressing the security challenges, saying that attacks by bandits had “reduced drastically.” He spoke during the 2021 Thanksgiving Day in the state.

Masari described the day as significant for the people of the state in view of the “growth and progress” being witnessed in the state. He said, “As from 1934 when Katsina was carved out of the old Zaria province to date, if you bring back alive somebody who died in 1934 and bring him back to Katsina and tell him this is Katsina, he will say no; likewise Daura. So, a lot has happened within the period and we need to thank Allah for this.

“And within the period, in all spheres of life, we have produced, if not the best but among the best in this country, which we should also thank God for. And in line with our religion, Allah says if we thank Him, He will add more and if you don’t, His punishment is severe. Thank God for making Katsina among the leading states in the country. God has been kind to Katsina State, particularly in the area of security challenges, as the rate of bandit attacks has drastically reduced based on the reports reaching the state government.”

Masari is understandably euphoric and thankful to God. Why not? At the heart of the banditry in the Northwest, he was more or less abandoned by the other governors in the region. It reached its head in December 2020 when over 300 students were taken away from their school in Kankara. Since then there has been nothing of that magnitude again. Therefore, there is good reason for cautious celebration.
