FCT Sports Council has promised to support Fosla Academy the sole representative of FCT in the National Zonal Play-off of the Principals Cup.
The Director, FCT Sports Council, Chief Dilichukwu Onyedinma disclosed this last week while addressing journalist after watching the Principal Cup finals between Fosla Acdemy and GSS Kabusa.
Speaking to our correspondent after the match, the hard working sports administrator expressed delight over the success of the event and explained that from the tournament, the FCT Sports have identified two solid teams to represent the federal capital in any tournament.
“I feel happy. It started 3 years ago and today it is a very big event. It will surprise you to know that more than 50 schools registered for the male competition and 20 for the female one. This is the first time we are including the female teams in the competition.
“It is a thing of joy that the youths are being busy and we are working with the schools. The way you can discover talents is to start from the schools. Today you can see that all of us are here; the principals, games masters, UBEB, and departments are here. We are working in conjunction with them and we are getting results.
“The purpose of the tournament is to discover talents and harness them. When you organize youth tournaments, you discover talents. From this competition, we have gotten two solid teams that can represent FCT anywhere. Don’t forget we have the U13, U15, U17 and U19 and when you talk of national festival, we have U19. Therefore we are comfortable with the underage talents from the youths because we have been able to supervise them from youth competitions that we organized including the Principals Cup.
“It is always my passion to see girls included in any competition. When you talk about youths, the girl is also a youth, so her interest should be protected. In this competition, we made sure that the girls were included and we are happy to see that the interests schools showed were tremendous.
If they are starting with 20 teams for the maiden edition in the female competition, you will imagine how many they will have next year. It is a thing of joy that my efforts are yielding results. We are working with both female and male and the girls are coming out not like before.
“Sponsors are already showing interest. This is our third edition and they have observed the competition thus far. Sponsors are already knocking on our doors. By next year there will be sponsors.
“We are going to inform the administration that Fosla Academy are representing us and in their usual way, they will consider my request and we will try as much as possible to assist them in whatever they need for effective representation,” she concluded.
