The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has urged President Bola Tinubu to address Governor Usman Ododo’s alleged protection of fugitive Yahaya Bello, who is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement by spokesperson Ibrahim Dan-Musa, NEYGA accused Ododo of abusing his immunity to shield Bello and lobby influential figures in Abuja for his protection. “Ododo’s actions are a slap in the face of President Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts,” said Dan-Musa.
The group warned that if Ododo’s behavior continues, it will set a dangerous precedent. They emphasized the need for Bello to answer for his alleged crimes, including the abduction of individuals during his governorship.
“Corruption must not be allowed to fight back and undermine our collective efforts to build a just and equitable society,” the statement read.
The group noted that during the Sallah celebrations in Okene, Governor Ododo’s convoy brought the former Governor home, who remained indoors throughout his stay and was driven back to his hiding place in the government house together.
According to the group, the man who has been declared wanted by relevant government agencies is enjoying such privilege. What a lawless situation we find ourselves in under the wrathful eye of the APC federal government.
NEYGA called on the people of Kogi State to reject politicians who prioritize personal interests over citizens’ welfare and to demand accountability and transparency from their leaders.
NEYGA reiterated its support for the EFCC and its commitment to fighting corruption at all levels, vowing to monitor the situation in Kogi State closely.
“Unity and solidarity are crucial in overcoming corruption and building a better future for all,” they said.
