A suspected member of the Eiye confraternity, identified as Cegaga, was found dead in the Gas Line area of Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ogun state, following a clash with a rival group on Saturday night.
According to eyewitnesses, Cegaga was stabbed to death during a disagreement over money with another cult member, Corner, and a friend, Troup, allegedly a member of the Viking cult.
A trader in the area, who craved anonymity for security reasons, told Discoverer Nigeria that though she didn’t witness the killing, the victim’s body was recovered the following morning around her shop. “Gas Line used to be a very peaceful area, but since cult clashes began, we have not had rest of mind,” she lamented.
The incident has sparked concerns over safety and security in the area, with residents calling for authorities to intervene. This is not the first time cult-related violence has rocked the community, with recent incidents including a clash between the Eiye and Alora confraternities in the Afobaje area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. The clash resulted in one death and an injury, with attackers arriving on motorcycles and shooting victims.
Similarly, Makogi community in the local government also experienced tension due to alleged cult activities, with residents accusing a traditional ruler, Chief Babatunde Akanni Sonola, of using cultists to terrorize the community. The incident led to destruction of property and physical assault, with victims calling for government intervention.
Efforts to speak with relevant authorities proved abortive as at the time of this report. The latest incident has heightened fears and underscored the need for urgent action to address the growing cult menace in Ogun State.
