Police authorities in Nasarawa have arrested 55 armed robbery suspects while recovering 46 various types of arms, including 5 AK 47 and 32 locally made fire arms, as well as four vehicles including a 2002 Honda model popularly known as “Discussion Continue” (FXJ 524 AU), snatched at gun point from the owner in Karu.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Lafia, while parading the robbery suspects at the headquarters of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Nasarawa Police Commission, Ibrahim Idris, said the command achieved this feat less than four months since he assumed duties in the state.

The CP said it has become necessary to update the media on the achievement of the command in its fight against crime and criminality, emphasizing that the effort is to consolidate on the peace now reigning across the state.

He noted that following concerted efforts by the state government, security agencies and traditional rulers, peace has returned to trouble spots across the state, with both the Tiv and Fulani now returning to their homes.

While showing appreciation to the state government, traditional rulers and patriotic citizens of the state for their support, CP Idris stated that security is however everybody’s business, urging the people to be security conscious wherever they may be.

“We urge the people to report any vehicle that is suspiciously parked or suspicious persons. If anybody leaves behind any package, people should insist such person picks the package” he said.

Among the suspected armed robbers paraded were a gang of robbers specialized in terrorizing the state, who confessed to robbing the AMBY Pharmacy on February 27 as well as the Nagoda Maidoya filling station on April 21.
