
Sokoto Govt embarks on 4 new water supply projects

Sokoto State Government has ermbakred on four new projects to boost water supply across Sokoto metropolis and its environs, the General Manager of the state Water Board, Engr. Aminu Haruna Mika’ilu, has said.
Engr. Mika’ilu told newsmen in Sokoto that the move was part of the sustained efforts of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto to tackle water scarcity in parts of the expanding state capital.
The General Manager listed the locations of the new ongoing projects to include: Old Airport, Tamaje, Mana and Rugar Liman.
According to Engr. Mika’ilu, the water supply projects in Old Airport and Tamaje each has the installed capacity of 150,000 gallons per day, while the ones in Mana and Rugar Liman each have 450,000 gallons per day capacity.
“All these projects are ongoing and according to their specifications, just as they will soon be completed and fully powered.
“They will be linked to the main Sokoto water system with a view to bolstering the daily water output to the capital city and its adjoining settlements.”
Engr Mika’ilu disclosed plans to rehabilitate the vandalised Runjin Sambo water station, to further enhance water supply in the metropolis.
The General Manager commended Gov. Aliyu for approving the total rehabilitation of the 40 year-old water board, which is being upgraded and modernised to restore its lost glory and enable it to function to its full installed capacity.
Engr Mika’ilu said, “If these projects are completed, the issue of water scarcity in Sokoto will soon be history.”
