Tears, protest have trailed the killing of a final student of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi, Joseph Agbabaidu, and stole his phone.
In separate accounts of the incident, Agabaidu, a 500-level student in the Department of Geology, was stabbed to death by robbers on Saturday evening at about 7 p.m.
He was said to be heading to his residence at Yelwan Tudu, about one kilometre from the school gate, where he was stabbed by a robbery gang.
The deceaed gave up the ghost on Sunday morning, despite efforts by health personnel to save his life.
“In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, we implore the school management, the police, and the Bauchi State government to prioritize and enhance the security of students within the state.
“Our community should not have to endure such sorrow. Proactive measures are crucial to prevent further tragedies,” an account said.
Consequently, students’ protest erupted in and around the school environment in the Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis yesterday. Monday over the incident.

Similarly, The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU) has closed down the institution over the protest by some segment of the students that was degenerating into breakdown of law and order.
Some of the students were protesting the death of a final year student of Geology Department that was alleged to have been murdered in Yelwa, a suburb community that is close to the University Campus.
Addressing Journalists Monday over the incident, the spokesman of the University, Mallam Zailani Bappa said that the management had to take decision of closing down the school in order to avert breakdown of law and order within the University community that may spread ino surrounding communities.
He said that all entreaties by the management of the school to calm the segment of the students protesting proved abortive, with some of them outrightly exhibiting disrespect to the management of the university that came to pacify them to let the police carry out their investigation.
Zailani said that the university management was aware of the alleged murder and had promptly reported the case to the police and assured that the management will follow the case to its logical end.
He said, “it is expected that all students of the institution should comply with the directive and vacate all its campuses with immediate effect”
