Two senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haruna Manu and Issa Shuaibu Lau from Taraba state have dumped their party and defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
In his letter read by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio at plenary on Wednesday, Haruna Manu said he wrote to formally notify the Senate of his decision to withdraw his membership from the PDP and to align himself with the APC.
He said “the decision follows deep reflection, extensive consultation with my different political associates and key stakeholders as well as a careful assessment of the prevailing political realities.
Taking into consideration the developmental aspirations of the people he represents, he said “I have become convinced that my continued service to my constituents and my contributions to the legislative and developmental agenda of our nation will be better advanced on the platform of the All Progressive Congress”.
Therefore, he respectfully request that his letter be read on the floor of the Senate and that his defection be duly noted and reflected in the records of the Senate in accordance with established parliamentary procedures.
Senator Issa Shuaibu Lau (Taraba North) in his letter “Notification of defection from the People’s Democratic Party to the APC” said “I have become increasingly concerned about the current party’s direction and internal issues. I believe the All Progressives Congress aligns more closely with my values and vision.
Please, accept this letter as formal notification of my defection to the All Progressives Congress.
Akpabio who read the two letters said they were accepted and directed to the Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele to formally receive them into the APC.
